Apple's "Genius" Passed Away

According to a statement just issued by Apple’s Board of Directors, company co-founder and longtime CEO Steve Jobs has passed away.

It was only a little over a month ago that Jobs stepped down as CEO saying at the time, “I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple’s CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come.”

Steven Paul Jobs (February 24, 1955 – October 5, 2011) was an American computer entrepreneur and inventor. He was co-founder, chairman, and chief executive officer of Apple Inc. Jobs also previously served as chief executive of Pixar Animation Studios; he became a member of the board of directors of The Walt Disney Company in 2006, following the acquisition of Pixar by Disney. He was credited in Toy Story (1995) as an executive producer.

On August 24, 2011, Jobs announced his resignation from his role as Apple's CEO. In his letter of resignation, Jobs strongly recommended that the Apple executive succession plan be followed and Tim Cook be named as his successor. Per his request, Jobs was appointed chairman of Apple's board of directors. On October 5, 2011, Apple announced that Jobs had died. He was 56 years old.

Google Maps Launches Helicopter View of Your Route

After the Street view, Google come up with Helicopter view. Now Google map user can fly alongside route to get a birds-eye of directions while making a plan to hiking trips, biking excursions or regular city commutes.

3D areal view or Helicopter view is enabled for everyone for all locations on Google Maps.

All you need is to enter start and end point in Google Maps, just like before, to get a 3D play button in left bar. Simply click on it to change your view from 2D to 3D view. You can pause and replay this 3D easily by tapping the same button.

“The map will switch to Earth view and automatically start flying you along your recommended route,” Google Maps engineer Paul Yang explains in a blog post. “To help you keep track of which step you are on, the current leg of the trip is highlighted in the left panel. You can also jump to a different part of the trip by clicking on a different step.” He added.

Nokia Now Ready for Linux Based OS For Low End Phones

Nokia has underlined the importance of low-cost smartphones and now it appears that the company is developing a Linux-based OS for smartphones that will cost less than US$100 without subsidies.

Reports have emerged that Nokia is developing a Linux based OS for feature phones called "Meltemi".
Low end phones currently account for more than 47 of the company’s sales, according to second quarter results and the OS update would seem to be a bid to maintain the company’s strong position in the emerging and lower end phone market.


"Of course, we don't comment on future products or technologies. However, I can say that our Mobile Phones team has a number of exciting projects in the works that will help connect the next billion consumers to the Internet," a spokesman said via email.


Nokia choosing Windows Phone over Android has put the company in a tight spot when it comes to low-end smartphones. There is no question that Android is pushing the price of smartphones to levels that are considerably lower than that of smartphones based on Windows Phone in the near-term, which means that Nokia has a gap in its portfolio, according to Ben Wood, director of research at CCS Insight.

100 SMS Per Day Per User in India

Telecom Regulatory Authority of India has implemented a regulation through which mobile users in India will have
100 SMS to use per day per user. The regulations prescribe several steps for protection of customers
from unsolicited Commercial calls and SMSs. According to new regulation passed by Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, one mobile phone subscriber will not be able to send more than 100 SMSs in a day. Move is likely to a relief for millions of mobile phone users who receive unwanted text messages each day.

Currently, Telecom service providers offer SMS packages offering as many as 2000 SMS per day, 
which can be made use of by unregistered persons for  sending commercial communications  from ordinary numbers.  In order to reduce such a possibility, TRAI has, in consumer interest, prescribed a limit of 100 SMS per day per SIM for all the customers.
Experts opine that this may not completely eliminate marketing and other SPAM messages, however, it will largely deter marketers from sending unlimited text messages from their mobile devices.
